If you're curious about meditation and Buddhism, come along to this six-week course which is an ideal introduction for newcomers -- as well as those who would like to revisit key Buddhist principles and refresh their meditation practice.

Over six Mondays, you will learn two meditation practices that can help develop calm, focused and creative states of mind. These are the Mindfulness of Breathing, which can support concentration, and the Metta Bhavana, which helps to cultivate love and kindness for ourselves and others. We'll take you through these step-by-step, and give you tips for posture and how to keep up your meditation practice at home.

We will be exploring the Buddha's life story, the truth about Karma, what it means to practice Buddhist ethics (and find that it's not about being good!), and understand what the Sangha jewel is. We’ll also hear what Enlightenment might be and how to ‘get’ there via the Noble Eightfold Path. There will be time for reflection, discussion, and any questions you might have.

Our introductory courses are open to everyone and take place in a friendly environment at the LBC. They are led by experienced teachers who will guide you through each week in an accessible way, helping you to reflect on how the teachings and meditations are relevant in your life. There are also tea breaks (with biscuits!) and a chance to connect with others. After each class, we will send you a follow-up email with the key points and ideas to try out in the week.

With this foundation in the basics of meditation and Buddhism, you may gain glimpses of a more expansive vision for life, and be equipped with tools that can benefit you for many years to come.

Monday evenings, 7.15 – 9.45pm. In person. £125/£85.
