An Evening with the Chair

A Vision of a New World

Mon 2 Feb 2026

Suryagupta, the Chair of the London Buddhist Centre, will be leading an evening sharing key perspectives on what a vision for a new world could be for us today.

With guests
Maitreyi, Sanghajit and Kavyamani

Suryagupta will share her inspiration for personal and societal transformation drawing on key insights from Sangharakshita’s seminal talk: A Blueprint for a New World.

Suryagupta will be joined by three friends who will share their stories of personal transformation whilst making a difference in the world.

During the evening there will be a calming sound meditation, a preview of the BuddhaMind app, and a closing ritual evoking peace.

Evening Programme

Start at 5pm with a generous serving of curry and chai at the Mandala café for £10.

Then join Suryagupta for an evening of ritual, sound and experienced Buddhists sharing their personal stories:

Sound meditation from Inside Sound

Preview of BuddhaMind
An exciting brand new app launching at London Buddhist Centre devised by Suryanaga and Sanghadharin.

Maitreyi

Maitreyi was ordained in 1989, the first year that women ordained women into the Order.

She trained as an Alexander Technique teacher and co-founded Bodywise, an alternative health Centre, part of the London Buddhist mandala. She moved to Tiratanaloka in 1997 where she lived and worked as a member of the Ordination Team for twenty years, becoming a private and public preceptor.

She returned to London 6 years ago to live in a large women’s community on Approach Road, close to London Buddhist Centre.

Sanghajit

Sanghajit was ordained in 2016. He lived in a men’s community above the London Buddhist Centre when he first moved to London from Australia in 2008.

He has since become a father of 3 children and he works as a specialist nurse in palliative care in Lewisham hospital, providing support and advice to dying patients. He also works as a cricket coach! You might also meet him at the drop-in meditation class on Tuesday nights at the LBC.

Kavyamani

Kavyamani was ordained in 2021 and lives in one of the London Buddhist Centre's women’s communities on Approach Road.

She works as an occupational therapist in East London and is a regular teacher on London Buddhist Centre’s health and wellbeing programme, Breathing Space.
