Live, Work and Practice at Vajrasana

Volunteer at the LBC

Vajrasana is a retreat centre in the heart of the Suffolk countryside, owned and run by the London Buddhist Centre. We're offering a rare opportunity to come and live here – to be at the heart of the Sangha's retreat life, to live in genuine community, and to make the Dharma the centre of your life.

Opportunities

There are many ways to contribute to life at Vajrasana, and we welcome anyone who feels drawn to be part of this community. If you have particular skills that might be helpful let us know but here are some examples of what you might do at Vajrasana:

  • Gardening

  • Maintenance

  • Admin Tasks

  • Supporting retreats

  • Cleaning

Interested in living at Vajrasana?

We invite you to begin with a one-week stay at Vajrasana – a chance to experience community life for yourself. If it feels like a good fit, we can explore what a longer involvement might look like together.

Live in a Buddhist Community

At Vajrasana you'll be surrounded by people who share your deepest values — learning from them, being inspired by them, and building the kind of friendships that only come from living a Buddhist life together. It is, in the truest sense, a Buddhist world.

Deepen your practice

Living at a retreat centre offers unique conditions for deepening your practice. Fewer distractions, a rhythm shaped by the Dharma, and the quality of retreat available to you every day. Less to get in the way of the life you actually want to live.

Serve the Sangha

Going on retreat is the lifeblood of the Sangha. By living and working at Vajrasana, you become essential to keeping that spiritual vitality alive — welcoming people, holding the space, and making it possible for others to transform. It is, in itself, a real service to the Dharma.

Mandala Cafe

Saddhaketu

Since I’ve been volunteering at the café, my life feels so much more meaningful and full of purpose. I get super motivated knowing that all my energies flow in the one direction and all my efforts contribute to a much greater vision, a world free of greed, hatred and delusion. I love that my work is supporting all the amazing people at the London Buddhist Centre and those who come to the LBC to practise and transform their minds.

Class Team

Karunanatha

My tasks during classes include holding bowls, manning the front desk, setting cushions and mats, hoovering, washing cups, preparing tea, and serving tea. I always volunteer for both preparing and serving tea. It's almost as if I can sense the metta infused in the tea and the people drinking it. Being part of a positive force such as the LBC brings me profound joy.

Reception

Charlie

I starting volunteering on the desk at the LBC as a way of expressing generosity through giving my time. Being on the desk has been a practice in itself, and has helped with my spiritual development in so many different ways. On the desk you are the first contact for those arriving at the centre and is a great way of meeting new spiritual friends.
