Solitary Retreats
After you have been meditating for some time and have attended other retreats, you might feel ready to go on a solitary retreat. Solitude provides an extraordinary opportunity to explore your mind; these retreats are often highly significant and life-affirming experiences.
Our solitary huts at Vajrasana are for practitioners within the Triratna Buddhist community who want to create more intensive conditions for practice. To book a solitary retreat, we require that you have some previous experience of being on retreat with Triratna and a regular meditation practice. If you’re unsure whether a solitary retreat is right for you, we recommend talking with Order members or friends first. We’d also be happy to speak with you if you have any questions.
We have two identical huts at our retreat centre: Han Shan and Ryokan. Han Shan is in the north-west corner of the property, and Ryokan in the north-east.
All bookings run from Friday to Friday. For 2027, we offer two rates: £355 (full) or £285 (concession) per week, with staple foods provided.
To book, please check the calendar below to see whether your preferred week(s) are available, then call us on 020 8709 9978 (10am–5pm, weekdays) to express your interest. Please leave a message if necessary and we’ll get back to you. To confirm your booking, we require payment in full.

Booking Conditions:
Solitary retreats must be paid for in full at the time of booking. If a solitary retreat is cancelled more than two months before the start date, a full refund will be given minus a £10 administration fee. If cancelled more than one month before the start date, a 50% refund will be given. If cancelled less than one month before the start date, no refund will be given. For single week bookings we can't guarantee which of the huts you'll be in, though we can make a note of your preference if you have one.
