Subhuti's Visit
Vision, Practice, Community
Mon 3 - Wed 5 Nov | 5.30–7pm | In person and online | Free (with donations welcome)
Subhuti is one of the senior-most teachers of the Triratna Buddhist Order and Community. Ordained over 50 years ago, and playing a major role in the establishment of the London Buddhist Centre, he has taught extensively in India, Hungary, Mexico and the UK. He is the LBC’s President and an important friend to many.
Subhuti visits the LBC twice a year to provide guidance, teaching, inspiration and friendship. For many of us at the LBC, Subhuti’s Presidential visits are one of the highlights of the year.
Vision, Practice, Community
Buddhism is a vision of life, a path of practice, and a community of practitioners. It doesn't fit into our westernized categories of religion, philosophy or psychology. It is neither secular nor divine. Grounded in direct experience, Buddhism is a path leading from where we are now to full and perfect enlightenment (anuttara-samyak-sambodhi).
How does a Buddhist vision, path and community take root? What are the challenges Buddhism faces in the westernized world? How do we live out a Buddhist vision in today’s technological, consumerist, individualist setting? How do we build a united community in a divided world?
We’ll be hosting three conversations with Subhuti, as part of his visit to the LBC, in order to explore these fundamentals. Subhuti is one of Sangharakshita’s leading disciples. He spent many years learning from him and working with him. He’ll talk personally about his own Buddhist path, his relationship to Sangharakshita, and the creation of what Sangharakshita has called a ‘New Society.’
Each session will start at 5.30pm with late entry at 5.45pm.
